China is fighting the Covid-19 outbreak on two fronts: control of the epidemic itself and recovering the economy. Companies are also fighting the outbreak. On one hand, there remains the acute necessity to minimize costs including personnel and labour costs. On the other hand, companies cannot compromise their legal obligations to employees as per employment contract law.

 

As the epidemic has evolved, the Chinese Central Government has announced key measures to help businesses get through this challenging time. A growing number of new policies have been introduced at the provincial and municipal levels, many of which have multi-faceted implications for employers and employees alike and keeping track of these policies is a top priority for business.
